Executive Order on Aligning Federal Contracting and
Hiring Practices With the Interests of American Workers

USTW was honored to have a seat at the table Monday with workers and representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)  who were able to tell their stories to President Trump, VP Mike Pence, Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia, Deputy Sec. of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli and Sara Blackwell, attorney and advocate for U.S. workers.

TVA is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. It was created in 1933 to bring economic development to the region that had been hit hard by the Great Depression.

Under CEO Jeff Lyash, TVA has been laying off workers and having them train their foreign replacements. On Monday, the President issued the Executive Order on Aligning Federal Contracting and Hiring Practices With the Interests of American Workers.

The Executive Order bans federal agencies from firing U.S. citizens or Green Card holders and replacing them with foreign labor. Federal contractors using H-1B workers will now be under more scrutiny.

At the signing event, President Trump said, “Today, I am signing an executive order to ensure that the federal government lives by a very simple rule: hire American.”

We look forward to this being just one of more efforts by the Administration to support U.S. workers.
